About Eric Faragher
Eric Faragher © David Toyne I was born on the 23rd of April 1957 in Liverpool. I developed an interest in photography early on and attempted family snaps while still at school. My first job was in the Arts and Recreations library at Liverpool's Central Libraries, where I read a wide selection of books on photography and on composition in art. I also became well acquainted with the works of many artists, modern and ancient.
The main themes of my images tend to be those of time or the effects of time and/or the familiar made strange. I seek to find a way to defamiliarize the every day. For this photographic project I employ numerous methods, including the fall of light and shadow, rotation of the image, close up texture studies and employment of reflective or distorting surfaces.
I do not usually take studio shots, portraits or still life studies because I prefer to find my images out in the open air. Often they come about as a result of "found" objects which I take in situ, and which tend to appeal to my eye because of the current state of the light or the angle I find to view them from.
Eric's Creative Influences
My photographic influences tend to be in the form of individual images rather than the whole body of work of an individual photographer. However, I think it safe to say that the following have all produced images I found fascinating. It should be noted that what follows is not an exhaustive list, simply those that spring to mind at the current moment in time.
